About Maranatha

Maranatha Christian School, founded in 1967, is sited in a semi-rural setting in the western hills of Lower Hutt. The school sits in a peaceful country atmosphere — yet is only a five minute drive from Lower Hutt city.

Maranatha is a co-ed Christian school with 150 children from years 1—8, drawn from over 30 churches throughout the region.

A state-integrated school, we use the Christian Interact curriculum, which is based on national curriculum guidelines.

Providing quality, affordable Christian education with a proven record of success, we are an excellent choice for your child. Our students typically go on to excel at secondary school in academic performance, sports teams, performing arts and their school communities, becoming prefects, bus wardens and team leaders.

With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, we focus on building character and encouraging children in their unique talents and abilities.

We encourage students to pursue excellence in all areas of their education, working and playing together co-operatively.

Foundation goals

The school in partnership with each family:

  • establishes a biblically based school environment in which children are discipled;

  • achieves and sustains academic and educational excellence; and

  • develops required social and life skills in the children.

Guiding principles

  • We are committed to provide good quality Bible-based education.

  • We employ teaching staff who are committed Christians, dedicated to the ministry of Christian education and capable of teaching Biblical standards.

  • We share in the responsibility of guiding children into a personal growing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and will work in partnership with parents and churches to achieve this.

  • We encourage pupils to pursue excellence in all areas of their education, and to enjoy working and playing to the best of their ability.

  • We provide affordable education to as many families as possible.

  • We recognise the importance and value of prayer, Christian testimony and fellowship.

  • We affirm the statement of faith.

School structure

As an integrated school, the school property and buildings are owned and maintained by the proprietors, the Maranatha Foundation Board.

Like other schools throughout New Zealand, Maranatha is managed by a Board of Trustees, consisting of parent elected members, as well as members appointed by the Foundation Board.

The school also has an active Parent Teacher Association, which is involved in organising fundraising activities and school social events.

The school operates on a combination of Ministry of Education funding and school fees, providing affordable, quality Christian education.
