Term 2, Week 10, 2 July, 2009
COME O LORD
Dear Maranatha Christian School community members,
The secretary for the NZ Association of Christian Schools (NZACS)
visited us this week. We enjoyed hosting him; he spoke at the board
meeting, staff devotions and senior syndicate meeting. He commented on
the really positive spirit in the school. Our community includes
students, families, staff, church members and boards. As an integrated
school we have both a board of trustees and a board of proprietors.
We are blessed to have 2 very supportive boards. The board of
proprietors—Maranatha Foundation Board (MFB) - is responsible for the
special character and the school property. They have been working hard
recently on the development of the buildings, and this week we received
the exciting news that resource consent has been approved for the
extensions and new rooms. We have on display some artistic,
architectural impressions of what the new entrance & administrative
block could look like. During the holidays I will be meeting with
elders/proprietors on ways we can work together to continue uplifting
and supporting the spiritual development of the school.
We have had a number of occasions to continue building and affirming our
Christian community. I am sorry I was too sick to attend the cultural
celebration; believe me if I had been able to crawl out of bed I would
have! It sounds as if it was a fabulous success. So a big thank you to
all who were involved.
I wish you all ‘Godspeed’ and pray that God will bless, refresh & revive
us all over the coming holiday. We look forward to seeing you at the
science fair next term.

MUFTI DAY
This year the money raised through bringing a coin for wearing mufti
will go towards playground equipment. We are starting a reward system
whereby students as a group can earn enough gold cards to earn something
that they want. Both the junior & senior syndicates have chosen specific
items of equipment that they would like added to the adventure
playgrounds.
Reading Mileage Programme
In order to support reading throughout the school, we have in the past
organised successful Reading Mileage Programmes. These have involved
parents volunteering their time to work with children who need the extra
boost of a short time of daily reading with an adult. We envisage a
roster of parents reading with the students, Monday to Thursday, 9 –
9:30 am. If you are willing to be part of this programme, please speak
to Mrs. Parlane urgently.
Parent teacher Interviews
As notified in the week 6 newsletter, parent teacher interviews will be
held week 2, term 3 on the same days as the science fair. The school
will close at 2 p.m. on the 28th, 29th, 30th July in order for
interviews to take place.

Cultural Day
A big thank you to everyone who was involved in making it such a
success; the children and teachers and their hard work, the parents who
organised groups, as well as all who came along on the day to support
the celebration. God has indeed blessed us with a wonderful community!
Movie on Friday (3rd of July)
Pupils in the senior syndicate will be watching a movie on Friday
morning called: “Fly Away Home”. It has an EFS focus which is why we
thought it would be suitable. If any parents do not want their children
to view this movie, as it is a secular movie, please inform their class
teachers, so that other arrangements can be made for them during this
time.
40h Famine results
A big thank you to all who participated in this year’s fundraiser. It
was wonderful to see how people opened their hearts to others in need.
We are so thankful to God who enabled us to donate an amount of $4 633.
Thank you also to the teachers who coordinated this event.
